Mexico’s national team said goodbye to the World Cup despite defeating Saudi Arabia (AFP).
The Saudi national team failed to qualify for the 16th round of the Qatar 2022 World Cup after losing to Mexico by two goals to one in the third round of the group stage on Wednesday.
The Mexican players dominated the game from the start and were on the verge of scoring the first goal were it not for the brilliance of Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais, who would have ended the first half in a goalless draw.
At the start of the second half, Henry Martin gave Mexico the opener in the 47th minute and 5 minutes later Luis Chavez added the second goal with a beautiful free kick.
While the Mexico national team were looking for the third goal to qualify for the second round after Poland’s defeat by Argentina, Salem Al-Dosari scored the goal in the 95th minute to equalize for Saudi Arabia and dashed the Mexicans’ hopes to qualify.
As a result, the Mexican national team, in third place, reached the fourth point and was officially excluded from the World Cup, joined by the Saudi national team, who finished fourth with 3 points.
