UK Prime Minister backs minister accused of bullying

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is backing a government minister accused of bullying a female colleague, British Minister of State Oliver Dowden said on Sunday, explaining that the offending phone messages were sent “in a moment of emotion”.

The Sunday Times exposed the allegations of bullying and published text messages in which Foreign Secretary Gavin Williamson used obscene language criticizing the UK Foreign Secretary and Wendy Morton, the Conservative Party Disciplinary Officer in Parliament.

The newspaper reported that he was upset that he had not been invited to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral and that Morton had made a formal complaint to the ruling party.

“These words came at an emotional moment to express frustration,” Dowden told Sky News. “It’s been a tough time for the party. I think he’s now admitting that he shouldn’t have done it and that he regrets it .”

“He shouldn’t have sent those messages… but of course the Prime Minister still has faith in Gavin Williamson,” he added.
