The moment a child is rescued from under the rubble more than 40 hours after the earthquake in Indonesia
Rescue workers in Indonesia said a 6-year-old boy was pulled from the rubble two days after an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit West Java province.
A firefighter who took part in the Azka rescue operation said he was found alive under the rubble of a house in the village of Nagrek in Cianjur district yesterday morning, more than 40 hours after Monday’s earthquake, Russia Today reported.
Officials said many of those killed in Monday’s earthquake were children attending after-school religious classes at mosques.
The quake killed at least 268 people, and the National Disaster Management Agency said about 150 people remain missing in Cianjur.
According to the agency, more than 1,000 people were injured and 58,000 displaced.
More than 2,300 buildings and homes were damaged, many of them reduced to rubble.
Indonesia lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
