The Departure of the Star Maker and His Companion.. Romeo Lahoud
The National News Agency said composer, stage designer and writer Romeo Lahoud died yesterday at the age of 92, coinciding with Lebanon’s “Independence Day”.
The Syndicate of Lebanese Press Editors mourned the death in a statement, saying: “Romeo has closed his eyes on the anniversary of independence and his heart is heavy with sorrow for a country that has distinguished itself by shedding light on its heritage. The beautiful time we remember memory bright images, it is impossible to repeat.
A number of Lebanese artists and public figures also mourned his death via social media, including singer Elisa, singer Saad Ramadan, TV presenter Nishan, singer Carole Samaha and actor Asab Mereb.
Media professional Giselle Khoury wrote on Twitter: “Romeo Lahoud, the pioneer of musical theater in Lebanon, has passed away. The Star Maker and his Companion.
And she continued: “He started with Sabah in 1963 at the Baalbek festivals and launched Issam Raji, Tony Hanna, Elie Choueiri, Ghassan Saliba and Salwa Al-Qatarib … He left (Independence Day) Lebanon which he continued internationally on stages like Olympia.” and other”.
Born in January 1930 in the town of Habalin, Byblos District, Lahoud worked throughout his career to revitalize and develop Lebanese folklore through theatrical performances and show dances, which remain etched in the public mind to this day. In 1995 he was awarded the National Cedar Medal with the rank of officer and has been honored by international festivals and institutions.
