The bodies of two young men, possibly from the Dominican Republic, were found on the landing gear (landing gear) of an Avianca plane during a maintenance operation in the Colombian capital Bogota, Avianca Airlines and the Attorney General’s Office said on Saturday.

“Upon the plane’s arrival at Bogotá’s El Dorado Airport, members of the airline discovered the bodies of two young men stowed in the landing gear,” Avianca said in a statement, adding that the discovery took place on Friday evening.

The company expressed its condolences to the families of the two, adding that while the planes are inspected before each flight, airport and restricted area security is the responsibility of authorities.

“The Technical Investigation Department of the Attorney General’s Office is conducting urgent procedures to establish the nationality of the two bodies, aged between 15 and 20, of African descent, found on the plane,” the Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.

Although no identification documents were found on the two bodies, one of them was carrying money from the Dominican Republic and a bag containing papers from that country that were found on them.

The bureau said the results “suggest the two may have been on the plane since Jan. 3,” when it was last in the Dominican Republic.

The attorney general’s office added that the plane’s last scheduled maintenance was on December 27 and has since flown to Bogota and Guarulhos near Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago.

The statement added that the two bodies were frozen and partially thawed and one of them had burn marks.
