The UAE condemns the attack on Egyptian security forces

On Saturday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the attack on Egyptian security forces and reiterated its support for the Egyptian government.

And the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the UAE fully endorses and supports “all measures taken by the Egyptian government to protect its sovereignty and security and to fight terrorism”.

The statement added that the UAE “strongly condemns these criminal acts” and “emphasises its continued rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing security and stability and contrary to human values ​​and principles.”

On Saturday, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, and the organization’s Amaq news agency said that “three members were killed and at least 12 others injured, including an officer,” in the attack.

Egyptian security sources said two gunmen on a car or two motorbikes opened fire on the security checkpoint as they approached it, according to two separate reports, and security forces killed one of the attackers and wounded the other, who fled.

Security sources quoted by news outlets said three people were killed in the attack, including at least two police officers, in addition to the injuries.

Eleven Egyptian soldiers were killed in an attack in West Sinai last May.
