Israel and Turkey agreed to resume relations
Yesterday Israel and Turkey agreed to resume ties, the office of Israeli Prime Minister-elect Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Yesterday’s statement from Netanyahu’s office indicated that relations could continue to improve under Netanyahu’s rule. Netanyahu’s office announced that during a phone call between them yesterday, the two leaders promised to work together and communicate again. Netanyahu is attempting to form a government after winning national elections earlier this month.
“The two leaders agreed to work together to usher in a new era in Turkey-Israel relations,” added the statement from Netanyahu’s office. Relations between the two countries have been at a stalemate during the previous term of Netanyahu, who is set to return to power soon. Relations have already improved under outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York in September, the first meeting between the two countries’ leaders in 14 years.
