Today, Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani decided to relieve the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Director of Baghdad International Airport and the Director of Airport Security from their duties on two grounds have occurred at the airport.

Al-Sudani, during his inspection of Baghdad International Airport facilities today, said he would follow up investigation procedures into the fire incident at one of the airport’s terminals “to find out the real reasons why the fires flared up again in just two days.”

He called on “the National Security Agency and the Civil Defense Directorate at the Home Office to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the security system and emergency preparedness at the airport and to review all security measures employed in all of its facilities, halls and buildings.”

He also called on “the Legal Committee in the Prime Minister’s Office to follow up on contracting procedures for the self-deletion scheme that has been suspended since 2013 and to identify those who have not operated it over this long period of time”.

Upon arrival at the airport, the Iraqi prime minister held a meeting to follow the effects of two fires that had broken out at Baghdad International Airport terminals over the past two days.

And the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority said the fires did not affect air travel and broke out in one of the airport concourse cafeterias with no injuries.
