Iran admits sending drones to Russia before Ukraine war

Iran admitted on Saturday for the first time that it had provided drones to Moscow, but said it sent them to Ukraine before the war, where Russia uses drones to attack power plants and civilian infrastructure.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s foreign minister, said a “small number” of drones were sent to Russia a few months before Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24.

In Iran’s most detailed response to date on the subject of drones, the Tehran minister denied further deliveries of drones to Moscow.

“This excitement of some Western countries that Iran has been supplying missiles and drones to Russia to help in the war in Ukraine – the part related to the missiles is completely false,” the official IRNA news agency quoted Amir Abdollahian as saying.

“The drone part is correct, Russia provided us with a small number of drones months before the Ukraine war,” she added.
