In a tree trunk… A photographer documents the “angry” expression of a female owl
DUBAI, UAE (CNN)–American photographer Mark Schocken was walking to a local park in Florida one morning when he heard about a female eastern screech owl hiding in a tree.
Schocken wasted no time as he headed to the park with his photography gear to document the scene that awaited him.
After an hour of waiting, a female owl emerged from a hole in the tree, but disappeared again 15 minutes later.
And after days of returning to the site, the American had a sweet photo of a female owl with her cub that landed her in the finals of the 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
In an interview with CNN in Arabic, the photographer said: “[Die Eule]appeared in the hole of the nest, and shortly thereafter a baby owl made its way to the hole with its mother. To be honest, the mother didn’t look very happy, and the baby owl looked like he was seeing the outside world for the first time.
Even the expression of a young female owl gives an idea, thanks to its curious eyes on its surroundings.
The two birds only stayed in that position for a few minutes, meaning photographer speed was important.
Fortunately, the American was able to document several snapshots of the funny situation.
“Seeing them together in such a small space was very interesting and I felt very lucky to have had the good timing because I was definitely in the right place and at the right time!” said Schocken.
According to the photographer, this photo was very popular and was liked by thousands of Instagram users.
The American photographer explained, “I think what makes it so special are the facial expressions of the mother and her little one… I even smiled when I took the picture of them. I could tell the scene was very cute and funny at the same time.”
Shocken was overjoyed to reach the photo contest finals, saying: “I was happy too because it’s one of my absolute favorite photos and it’s always great to get recognition for a photo I personally love so much. “
