Erdogan considers the Istanbul bombing a despicable attack, announces the deaths of 6 people
At least six people were killed and 53 injured in an explosion on Istiklal Street in the heart of Istanbul yesterday.
Yesterday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on TV the blast in Istanbul was a “despicable attack” and noted that there were “six dead and 53 injured,” according to the latest figure.
“The first information points to a terrorist attack,” he said two hours after the blast, which occurred on Istiklal shopping street, noting that “a woman may have been involved,” without adding further details.
“The identity of the perpetrators of this heinous attack will be revealed,” Erdogan added. So that our people can be sure that we will punish the perpetrators.”
“Attempts to besiege Turkey and the Turkish nation with terrorism will not achieve their goal today or tomorrow,” he added.
State-run Anadolu News Agency said five prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the incident.
A video clip posted online showed erupting flames and a loud noise as bystanders turned and ran. Other footage showed ambulances, fire engines and police at the scene.
