SHARJAH, November 22, 2020, WAM / The Sharjah Center for International Commercial Arbitration “Tahkeem” emphasized the importance of arbitration in improving the business environment in the country by building genuine partnerships between the government and the private sector, enabling the provision of a competitive, fertile and environmentally friendly environment that encourages continuation in this area.
This came during a dialogue session organized by the Center in partnership with the British Royal Society of Certified Arbitrators as part of Dubai Arbitration Week activities at their fourth session at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in the Dubai International Financial Center.
Participated in the session moderated by Attorney Natasha Zahid, Legal Director at Clyde & Co. Allen, Dr. Asmaa Al-Rasheed, Member of the Executive Committee of the Centre, Attorney Mohieddin Al-Banna, Chairman and Founder of Qaf Law Firm and Attorney Robert Sliwinsky – Legal Counsel at Law Firm Al-Suwaidi & Partners.
Ahmed Al-Ajla, Director of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Center “Tahkeem”, made an introductory presentation on the center during the session, which included an introduction to the working mechanisms used in handling applicable arbitration cases, as well as the quality of those delivered by the centre provided services in accordance with modern international arbitration standards and the importance of arbitration for improving economic and investment stability in the country and ensuring an environment. A safe and typical investment.
The session touched on the nature of the relationship between arbitration and local courts, as it is a homogeneous and complementary relationship that has led to many positive outcomes that are in the interest of all parties, be it in terms of public interest, interest of institutions and individuals or also with a view to improving the economic environment of the state.
The session covered a wide range of technical issues and topics related to arbitration, including best practices in the arbitration industry locally and internationally, the types of cases reviewed by arbitrators, the efficiency of the arbitration process, and the differences between the administrative process of cases handled by local courts versus arbitration institutions.
The participants of the session emphasized that the possibility of turning to arbitration boards instead of the courts is preferred by many investors and owners of large companies due to the many advantages and facilities offered to them by presenting a number of examples of disputes, resolved by arbitration, in addition to highlighting the role of arbitrators in arbitration and the extent of flexibility in dealing with arbitration rules and the extent of their powers to intervene in the procedures used in arbitration in various cases and disputes.
