MANAMA, Nov. 11 / WAM/ The sisterly kingdom of Bahrain is celebrating two decades since the first general and local elections as voters head to the polls tomorrow as the first round of the ‘2022 elections’ begins.
In the following statistical report, Emirates News Agency “WAM” reviews the march of Bahrain’s general and local elections with the completion of preparations for the polling stations to welcome voters.
The Kingdom of Bahrain held its first general and local elections in 2002, after which elections were held every four years in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.
This Friday, the polling period begins 24 hours before Bahrainis vote in general and local elections.
According to Executive Administration statistics for the 2022 general and local elections, the total electorate is approximately 344,713 voters.
The figures showed that the electoral bloc in the capital’s governorate, which includes 10 constituencies, included 66,148 voters, in Muharraq governorate, which includes 8 districts, 81,637 voters, in northern governorate, which includes 12 districts, 121,581 voters and in Muharraq governorate, the Covering 12 districts, 121,581 voters Southern governorate covering 10 districts, 75,347 voters.
The total number of candidates for the general and local elections reached a record 561, surpassing all previous elections Total number of candidates in the 2022 election.
The Election Integrity Oversight Committees received 369 applications for sixth-term House of Representatives membership, including 83 women, from all forty districts of the Kingdom’s governorates, as well as 192 applications for municipal council membership, including 24 women.
Stressing the growing spirit of volunteerism among the Bahraini people and the desire for this election wedding to be a success, the Executive Administration of Elections received 14,318 inquiries from citizens wanting to help organize the election process within just five days of announcing the opening of the door for volunteer work.
The total number of Bahraini citizens checking electoral rolls reached 26,5138,000 during the period in which electoral rolls were issued and correction or appeal requests were filed, a record number unmatched in any previous election.
In addition, the facades of buildings in the Kingdom of Bahrain, roads and streets have been adorned with the 2022 election slogan “We vote for Bahrain 2022” to motivate citizens to vote for those who have the confidence and responsibility to represent them them in Parliament and in the municipal councils.
The Kingdom of Bahrain is making progress in consolidating the democratic path through citizen participation in the election of its parliamentary representatives, based on the principle of popular participation, more than two decades after the start of the first legislature.
Bahrain’s elections enjoy full judicial oversight at all stages of the electoral process, beginning with the voter rolls through to the announcement of the final results, which embodies the integrity and transparency of the elections.
On November 8, the Kingdom of Bahrain diplomatic missions abroad held the voting and voting process for the 2022 general election in 37 different capitals and cities around the world.
