International law enforcement have foiled a global ‘scam shop’ that has defrauded victims of tens of millions of pounds.

And the Bloomberg news agency reported that Britain’s Metropolitan Police said on Thursday they had shut down the iSpof scam site and arrested more than 100 people in Britain in connection with the case.

London Police worked in coordination with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and European Law Enforcement Agency (Europol) to make the arrests.

iSpof allowed scammers paying with Bitcoin to hide their phone numbers, making it appear as if they were calling from big banks to trick people into giving them personal information.

The scammers contacted up to 20 people every minute.

London Police said reported losses as a result of iSpof calls and texts totaled around £48million.
