Argentina threaten Messi’s World Cup ambitions
Argentina coach Tata Martino confirmed he will give his all with Mexico to beat Argentina in the second round of Group C matches of the 2022 World Cup on Saturday.
Martino said in a press conference that he has Argentine citizenship but will work to lead Mexico to victory over the “Tango”.
Going into the clash led by star Lionel Messi, Argentina national team have no choice but to win by two goals to one after their eminent first-round loss to Saudi Arabia as defeat could topple the world champions twice outside of the competition in the group stage.
The Mexico coach explained: “I know how important the game is. The future of both teams is at stake. I’ll do the impossible for Mexico to win and we want the best for that.”
He continued: “I can tell you which hospital I was born in and details of my childhood. I’m Argentinian but I work for Mexico.”
And on the confrontation with Messi, he replied: “Everyone who faced Messi said the same thing. It happens because you have a bad day more often than what you did. How can we describe it? As the best player of the last 15 years, there is not much to say.”
He concluded: “It’s difficult to imagine the idea of a draw going in favor of Mexico because sometimes the team doesn’t deserve to win and they win and sometimes they deserve to win and we don’t win.”
